Back in the day it was a treat to get a "soft package" for any occassion - but especially Christmas from my Grandma Eda. She wasn't really my grandma, she was my aunt's mother-in-law, but she was a wonderful addional grandma. "Soft packages" were always wrapped in white tissue paper with bright, holiday curling ribbon around them. The almost always contained one her her special handmade rabbits.
Today's version of this extra special treat is a soft package from Nana Joyce (my mom).
The kids came home from the last day of school, the first day of their holiday vacation, to find Christmas quilts and matching pillowcases to help them begin celebrating!
Keeli's has old fashioned Santas and her favorite color, purple. Her pillowcase is primarily made from the purple stars. She immediately went to her room and re-made her bed with this.
Rikard's pillowcase doesn't match his quilt, but has large prints of Santa and his reindeer. He took his quilt and went to the family room, snuggled on the couch and watched television. He fell asleep after a very hectic day of holiday gift exchanges and treat sharing at school.
Tatum's quilt is - of course - pink. The floral print is the final remaining scraps in my mom's stash of material she bought to make her granddaughter's dresses for Christmas about eight years ago. Tatum and my neices Madison and Ashlie had dresses from this fabric for the holiday music programs at school. Eventually, we ended up with two of the dresses for Tatum and Keeli and we used them in a family portrait.

Ohhhhhhhh very nice quilts....how have you been??
I have been good, busy with kids, work and recovery from a third surgery on my ankle 10 weeks ago.
How wonderful to have quilt keepsakes from Grandma. And the way they all loved them right away probably made your mom feel wonderful too!
